Many athletes ask themselves the question, how long should or may my off-season be and when do I start training again? Some people even ask themselves whether they need an off-season at all, because you lose too much fitness or even weight. So what to do? How do we do this at triworx-coaching. com?
THE GOLDEN RULE OF THE OFFSEASON – HAVE FUN
The most important thing in the off-season, which takes place after the last race of the season (for example the Ironman Hawaii), is that you do what you enjoy. The body needs rest to regenerate. And more importantly, the mind must be free. It is the opportunity to do all the things that are often missed out during the season.
You travel, meet friends, go to the cinema, celebrate, do long series evenings or even sport. Anybody you want. The triworx-coaching. com athletes do not get a training plan for 3-4 weeks, but the release to do what they feel like doing. I am especially happy about trying out new things like bouldering, slacklining, dancing or martial arts.
The goal is simply to try new things, to remain curious and to approach something completely unencumbered. You learn so much about yourself. Of course we are in constant contact with each other and exchange information at least once a week, so that it doesn’t get too much. The athletes who had the most active plans for the off-season are usually the most relaxed ones. A long and hard season is exhausting and needs a well deserved break.
THE START INTO TRAINING – WHEN AND HOW MUCH?
As a rule of thumb, if I feel like training again, then I am sufficiently regenerated. It is important that it is fun and not the worry of losing too much form. Our experience is that after 3-4 weeks most athletes can no longer be kept. Depending on the seasonal planning, up to 6 weeks are okay.
The entrance should be chosen deliberately loose. It is nice to have a clear training plan with a fixed structure adapted to the athlete. This way, he knows when he can do what and has the security of being regularly and sufficiently burdened. This ensures that the development of the new goals is carried out continuously and this is the most important guarantee for success. In the winter we tend to focus on shorter units that are technically demanding or demanding in terms of intensity.
Winter is the time to get stronger.
WHAT IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING AT TRIWORX-COACHING. COM?
Stephan is currently on the verge of the season’s highlight at Ironman Western Australia in Busselton, Astrid is back into training after the Ironman World Championship to achieve a very special goal next year and all the others are working hard for the upcoming winter running competitions.
The training goals are very differentiated. Stephan will start tapering after this weekend and travel to Australia. So he has been training hard and a lot in the last weeks. Astrid has only been running a little and swimming once a week. Her training is now being restructured, takes place daily and will lead to one or two Battle on Zwift (as soon as she hopefully gets her bike coupled or a new smart role?).
Everyone else is working on their running technique and speed. On the one hand, this ensures a more efficient running style in summer and, of course, lots of speed and fun.
